GENE (Global Education Network Europe) held its 54th Roundtable in Prague, From 22–24 April 2026, GENE bringing together Ministries and Agencies from across Europe to strengthen cooperation on Global Education.
Hosted at the Czernin Palace, the Roundtable highlighted Global Education as essential for democracy in a changing geopolitical context. Contributions from Chiara Adamo (European Commission, DG INTPA) and Marie Chatardová (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic) emphasised education, cooperation, and active citizenship, while GENE Chair Annette Scheunpflug (GENE Chair) and Executive Director Liam Wegimont (GENE Executive Director) framed discussions around democratic futures.
Sessions included national reports, peer learning, and policy exchange on narrative change, alliance-building, and political commitment. Keynotes by Petr Lebeda (Global Education expert, Czech Republic) and Joe O’Hara (Incoming President, WERA, and President of the European Alliance of Social Sciences and Humanities) highlighted education’s role in supporting inclusive democratic societies.
Across both days, the Roundtable reaffirmed Global Education as a shared European space for dialogue, cooperation, and action for democracy and social justice.
